Embed component: coming soon!

Introducing the Embed component: new functionality to manage and embed third-party applications on a per site basis is currently in development. The initial whitelist (approved features) is expected to be released this month.

What is changing?

The Embed component will allow approved applications to be embedded in Fresco.

The initial release focuses on:

  • Providing an embed administration area in Settings to allow a Site Administrator to enable embeddable applications for their site
  • A whitelist of three to six applications including Figshare, SharePoint Online and Shiny/IDN

Planned further development

  • Additional applications have been prioritised and will be added to the whitelist during the current Wave 4 activity
    • Coming soon: Panopto, Google Maps, MazeMap
  • A process for requesting additions to the whitelist

Why is the change happening?

The ability to embed content within a Fresco site is a key requirement to enable users to migrate from Mosaic and is being delivered as part of our roadmap

It also benefits new sites who depend on the ability to create content without hosting it. This allows editors to follow sustainability best practice and better manage site size.

How will this impact your site?

  • You will soon be able to embed whitelisted applications into your site
    • Only whitelisted applications will be embeddable to maintain platform security
  • The Fresco team validates each application and identifies which cookies will be in use
  • Once applications are enabled for a site, a new site-specific cookies statement is automatically generated which includes the cookies for the selected applications
  • The current link to /cookies in a site Footer will be updated to /site-cookies
