Upcoming changes to Fresco’s design system

We are excited to share that a new design system will soon be coming to Fresco. This will support our aim of building a platform where sites have the flexibility to establish their own visual identity, while maintaining a cohesive Oxford look and feel.

What’s changing?

In mid-June, we’ll be releasing an update to the way colours and branding are applied across Fresco web pages.

The updated system will support a wider range of colour and branding options, including:

  • greater flexibility with background, header and footer colours
  • built-in accessibility contrast checking
  • more consistent use of curated colour palettes

How will this impact you?

All live Fresco sites will move onto the new design system. We will not intentionally change existing site colours, but some sites may look slightly different afterwards as colours will now be applied through the updated system.

When this release comes in mid-June, we'll recommend that you review your site colours and make any adjustments needed.

Not every site will use every available colour option; choices should be applied where they support the site’s purpose, content, user needs and the University’s overarching content strategy. Learn more about Fresco's design strategy, including our tiered approach to customisation
